Learn About John DiGiovanni
My name is John DiGiovanni, I am a self-taught fine art nature and landscape photographer. I live in Frederick County Maryland.
I grew up in the Washington, DC / Baltimore region. I spent my childhood playing sports and running on the trails near where I lived. Looking back in time, I remember really enjoying looking at photography when I was younger. Particularly, I loved images of the high mountains in the western United States. I dreamed of exploring those landscapes, but mainly on my feet as a runner.
My entry into photography started In 2012 at the age of 36 when I moved to Hawaii for residency training after completing medical school. I decided I'd worked hard for a long time and I was going to reward myself with a decent entry level camera to capture the beauty of the Hawaiian Islands. I bought a Nikon D7000, but sadly had no idea what I was really doing. I learned a few basic settings by reading my camera's manual, but did not seem to be able to produce the types of images I desired or saw others making. However, I was hooked.
After 3 years of taking pictures I finally decided to begin to learn photography. Towards the end of my residency I took a lesson from a photographer while on a quick trip to Maui. Not only did I have a great experience and learn a lot; I became inspired. After this day long lesson I began learning as much as I could.
The beauty of the Hawaiian Islands was an easy place to continue to grow as a photographer for the next three and a half years. In December 2018, after nearly six and a half years in Hawaii, I moved to Anchorage, Alaska, where I lived for three years. What an experience for someone who loves photography and the mountains. After nearly ten years living in Hawaii and Alaska, the two most incredible places I've been to so far in my life, I moved back to Maryland in 2022.
I'm really just an ordinary guy who loves to be active and spend time outside. I like capturing what I see, hoping my work can transport you to the scene I'm capturing. If I can inspire you to get outside, be active and to find the amazing beauty our wonderful planet and the natural environment provides, I'll consider that success.
My photographic collection is available as fine art prints. If you've seen something you like that you do not see for sale here, or if you're interested in a format or size not available here, please contact me. I'd be happy to helpget you what you would like.
